Global Code of Ethics for Tourism – EgyptaTours Commitment
At EgyptaTours, we deeply value the principles of sustainable tourism and ensure that every member of our team understands its importance. We encourage all our travelers to make a positive impact during their visit to Egypt. In a world affected by challenges like climate change, pollution, and environmental degradation, we are fully committed to maintaining a clean, respectful, and well-preserved environment for future generations.
We align our values and operations with the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism (GCET) – a key reference for responsible and sustainable tourism. This code provides a clear framework of ethical principles, aimed at guiding governments, the travel industry, host communities, and tourists. Its primary purpose is to maximize the benefits of tourism while minimizing any negative impact on the environment, cultural heritage, and local societies.
Originally adopted in 1999 by the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and later endorsed by the United Nations in 2001, the Code is a voluntary yet powerful tool. Though not legally binding, it empowers tourism stakeholders to refer any concerns or questions to the World Committee on Tourism Ethics (WCTE), which monitors and guides the ethical application of its principles.
The Code outlines 10 core articles, covering the economic, cultural, social, and environmental dimensions of tourism:
The 10 Principles of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism:
Article 1: Tourism’s contribution to mutual understanding and respect between peoples and societies
Article 2: Tourism as a vehicle for individual and collective fulfillment
Article 3: Tourism, a factor of sustainable development
Article 4: Tourism, a user of the cultural heritage of mankind and contributor to its enhancement
Article 5: Tourism, beneficial activity for host countries and communities
Article 6: Obligations of stakeholders in tourism development
Article 7: Right to tourism
Article 8: Liberty of tourist movements
Article 9: Rights of the workers and entrepreneurs in the tourism industry
Article 10: Implementation of the principles of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism
At EgyptaTours, we take pride in upholding these principles and promoting responsible travel across Egypt. If you have any questions, suggestions, or feedback regarding our ethical and sustainable tourism practices, we would love to hear from you.
