Frequently Asked & Questions
The Movenpick MS Sun Ray typically sails between Luxor and Aswan on the Nile.
Most sailings follow one of these patterns:
4 days / 3 nights: Usually Aswan to Luxor
5 days / 4 nights: Usually Luxor to Aswan
7 days / 6 or 7 nights: Round-trip options, depending on the season and operator
The exact schedule can vary by season and by the travel company you book with, so it is best to confirm departure days and routing before you reserve.
Most Movenpick MS Sun Ray packages are full-board, so you get:
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner on board
Tea or coffee at set times, for example with breakfast or afternoon tea
Use of shared facilities, such as the sun deck and pool
Items that are usually not included:
Drinks outside set meal inclusions, especially alcohol and bottled drinks
Optional tours or extra-entry sites beyond the standard program
Spa services, laundry, and onboard shopping
Gratuities for staff and guides, unless your package says they are prepaid
Always check your specific booking, since some tour operators bundle more services than others.
Most guests travel on the Movenpick MS Sun Ray as part of a guided package that includes major sites like Karnak, Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings, Philae Temple, and the High Dam.
In many cases you get:
A licensed Egyptologist guide
Group transfers between the ship and sites
Entrance tickets to the main attractions on the set itinerary
Some special sites, such as the tomb of Tutankhamun or certain museums, may require an extra ticket. Ask your tour operator for a detailed day‑by‑day plan so you know exactly what you are paying for.
Cabins on the Movenpick MS Sun Ray are designed as hotel-style rooms on a river ship, not tiny bunk-style cabins.
You can usually expect:
Private bathroom with shower
Air conditioning
Large windows or panoramic windows, depending on deck
Twin or double beds, with the option of a third bed in some cabins
In‑room safe, TV, and a small fridge in most categories
If you care a lot about views, book a higher deck when possible and confirm whether your cabin has a full panoramic window or a smaller one.
On board, the dress code is smart casual. Comfortable summer clothes are fine during the day, and many guests wear slightly dressier outfits at dinner, like a casual dress or pants and a shirt. Formal wear is not required.
During excursions, focus on comfort and modesty:
Light, breathable fabrics
Shoulders and knees covered for temple visits, especially for women
Comfortable walking shoes or sandals with grip
A hat and sunglasses, because the sun can be strong even in winter
A light cardigan or scarf is useful in air‑conditioned areas and in cooler months.
The most comfortable months for a Nile cruise are October to April. Daytime temperatures are warm but much more pleasant than in peak summer. Nights can feel cool, especially from December to February, so a light jacket helps.
You can still cruise in summer, from May to September, but expect very high heat, especially around midday during temple visits. Some travelers like this period because prices can be lower and crowds are lighter.
The Movenpick MS Sun Ray usually offers Wi‑Fi in public areas and often in cabins, but the signal can be patchy while sailing. Speed and stability are not on the level of a city hotel, especially when the ship is between towns.
For important calls or steady data, many travelers buy a local Egyptian SIM card with a data plan at the airport or in town before boarding. Treat ship Wi‑Fi as a bonus rather than your main connection.
Think light, practical, and modest. Useful items include:
Light cotton clothes, plus a warmer layer for evenings in winter
Comfortable walking shoes or sandals
A hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen
A small day pack for water, camera, and tickets during tours
Basic medications, including anything you take regularly
If you like taking photos, bring a camera or phone with plenty of storage and a power bank, since you may be off the ship all day on excursions.
Tipping customs can vary by package, but Nile cruises usually follow a pooled tipping model for ship staff. Many operators collect a suggested amount per person per night, then distribute it among crew members.
In addition, guests often tip:
The Egyptologist guide, per day or per trip
The driver on excursion days
Porters or special service staff for extra help
Some packages include all tips except personal extras, so check your voucher or ask your travel agent before you sail.
