No matter how you slice it, the Red Sea is home to a surprising number of jellyfish. And while the creatures are often associated with stinging pain and terror, some experts say they can actually be quite beneficial. Jellyfish have long been known to be predators of other sea creatures, but they’re also known for their ability to photosynthesize- meaning they turn sunlight into energy. As such, some scientists say the Red Sea’s jellyfish population could help improve water quality and offset pollution levels.
