Frequently Asked & Questions
The Oberoi Zahra mainly operates between Luxor and Aswan on the Nile.
Most itineraries are 7 nights, either Luxor to Luxor, or Aswan to Aswan, with guided visits to major sites such as:
Karnak and Luxor Temples
Valley of the Kings
Edfu and Kom Ombo Temples
Philae Temple in Aswan
Exact routes and stop order can change by season, river conditions, or special schedules, so it is smart to double-check the current itinerary when you book
The Oberoi Zahra is a small, luxury ship with fewer cabins than many Nile boats, so it feels quiet and private.
Key differences many guests notice:
Spacious cabins and suites, most with private balconies
Fine-dining style meals rather than large buffet lines
A full spa and pool, plus a relaxed sun deck
Smaller group tours with Egyptologist guides
Focus on time at each site, not a rushed schedule
If you prefer comfort, calm, and space over crowds and noise, this ship fits that style.
Typical inclusions cover most of what you need on board. Packages usually include:
Accommodation in a cabin or suite
All main meals on board (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Sightseeing tours to listed temples and sites
English-speaking Egyptologist guide on excursions
Entrance fees to the included sites
Transfers between airport or hotel and the ship, depending on your booking
Drinks, spa treatments, tips, and some optional activities are usually extra. Always check the exact inclusions on your chosen rate.
The ship offers luxury cabins and suites.
Common options:
Luxury cabins with large windows and river views, often with private balconies
Suites with more space, a separate seating area, and upgraded bathrooms
Even the entry-level cabins tend to feel more like a boutique hotel room than a typical ship cabin.
Yes, families are welcome, but the atmosphere is quiet and refined, not like a big resort.
Things to keep in mind:
There is no loud kids’ club or water slide style pool
Older children and teens who enjoy history do well on this cruise
Parents need to watch younger kids closely during temple visits and on deck
If your children enjoy museums, stories about pharaohs, and calm spaces, they will likely enjoy this cruise.
The most comfortable months for a Nile cruise are:
October to April: Mild to warm days, cooler evenings, good for sightseeing
May and September: Warmer, but still manageable for many travelers
July and August can be very hot, especially at midday. If you travel in summer, plan to rest during the hottest hours, drink lots of water, and use shade on deck.
Pack for warm days, cooler nights, and modest dress for temples. Useful items include:
Light, breathable clothing in neutral colors
A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen
A light jacket or wrap for evenings and air-conditioned areas
Comfortable walking shoes for uneven ground at ancient sites
A simple, modest outfit that covers shoulders and knees for temple visits
The ship has a relaxed, smart-casual feel. Formal wear is optional, not required.
The dress code is smart casual, not very formal.
During the day, light, modest clothing works well. In the evening, many guests choose:
For women: a casual dress, skirt and top, or smart pants and blouse
For men: chinos or tailored pants with a polo or shirt
Ties and jackets are not necessary unless you want to dress up for special occasions.
Yes, Wi‑Fi is available, usually in cabins and public areas.
Because the ship sails along a river in more remote stretches, the connection can be slower or spotty at times, especially between major cities. It works best for email, messaging, and light browsing, not for heavy streaming.
Excursions are usually small-group tours led by a qualified Egyptologist.
The crew shares the next day’s schedule each evening. A typical pattern looks like this:
Early morning departure for the main site before the heat and crowds
Guided tour with time for photos and questions
Return to the ship for lunch and a break
Afternoon or sunset visit to another temple or local attraction
Entry tickets and transfers are usually arranged by the cruise staff, so you do not need to plan logistics.
Yes, the Oberoi Zahra is popular with honeymooners and couples who want a calm, upscale setting.
Reasons it works well:
Fewer cabins and a relaxed vibe
Elegant suites for more privacy
Romantic sunsets on deck over the Nile
Fine dining style meals and attentive service
If you mention a birthday, anniversary, or honeymoon when booking, the hotel team often adds small touches, subject to availability.
The Oberoi Zahra has a limited number of cabins, so it often sells out early, especially in peak season from October to April.
If you want a specific date or a suite, it is wise to book several months in advance, sometimes 6 to 9 months for popular holiday periods. Last-minute spots do appear at times, but they are not guaranteed.
