Egypt Battles
Egypt is famous for its rich culture and amazing architecture, but it also has a long military history filled with many battles in ancient times. These wars were often fought to defend the country from invaders, expand its land or prove its strength over other kingdoms.
Ancient Egypt already had military forces long before the Hyksos invasion. However, during the Hyksos rule in the 15th Dynasty, the Egyptians strengthened and reorganized their army to become more powerful. Over time, they took part in several well known battles where they achieved important victories.
Battles helped shape Egypt’s borders, leadership and cultural identity. Control of the Nile Valley was always strategically important.
From the 12th Dynasty onward, the pharaohs of ancient Egypt focused more on training their soldiers and improving their military strength. The Egyptians also became skilled in building strong war chariots. Over time, they formed a well organized army made up of archers, chariot fighters and foot soldiers.
They used bows, spears, swords, shields and chariots. Chariots were especially important in New Kingdom battles.
