Ancient Egypt already had military forces long before the Hyksos invasion. However, during the Hyksos rule in the 15th Dynasty, the Egyptians strengthened and reorganized their army to become more powerful. Over time, they took part in several well known battles where they achieved important victories.

From the 12th Dynasty onward, the pharaohs of ancient Egypt focused more on training their soldiers and improving their military strength. They used bows, spears, swords, shields and chariots. Chariots were especially important in New Kingdom battles.
