    The Giza Necropolis is the most important archaeological site in Egypt. It is located 30 kilometers (18 miles) southwest of Cairo and includes the three pyramids of Cheops, Khephren and Mykerinus, as well as several other temples and tombs that were built during different periods starting from the fourth dynasty (2613-2494 BC).

    The Great Pyramid:

    The largest pyramid ever built in Egypt is known as Khufu’s Pyramid or the Great Pyramid of Giza. It was built during the 4th dynasty by King Khufu who ruled Egypt from 2589 BC to 2566 BC.     The Great Sphinx is also known as “The Guardian of the Horizon”. It is 240 feet long, 66 feet high and its head rises 63 feet above ground level. The face of this monument is believed to be that of King Chephren (Khafra).

    The Valley Temple of King Khafre was built during the Fourth Dynasty. The temple was discovered in 1871 by Auguste Mariette, who was a French archaeologist.
