the three pyramids of Cheops, Khephren and Mykerinus, as well as several other temples and tombs that were built during different periods starting from the fourth dynasty (2613-2494 BC).
The Great Pyramid:
The largest pyramid ever built in Egypt is known as Khufu’s Pyramid or the
Great Pyramid of Giza. It was built during the 4th dynasty by
King Khufu who ruled Egypt from 2589 BC to 2566 BC. This pyramid has an estimated volume of 2,583,000 cubic meters and covers an area of 13 acres (5 hectares).
The Great Sphinx:
The
Great Sphinx is also known as “The Guardian of the Horizon”. It is 240 feet long, 66 feet high and its head rises 63 feet above ground level. The face of this monument is believed to be that of
King Chephren (Khafra).
The Valley Temple:
The Valley Temple of King Khafre was built during the Fourth Dynasty. The temple was discovered in 1871 by Auguste Mariette, who was a French archaeologist. The temple is located at the end of the causeway that leads to the Great Sphinx. The temple’s entrance faces east towards the rising sun and it is aligned with the Sphinx.
